I purchased the book, thinking that I would learn something about this rich culture from the voices of its inhabitants. Instead, its the work of a person who is profiting from the culture of a people, not thoroughly knowing them or living among them. Just an exploiter who visited and having taken ( or captured )some outdated photos (probably while on a short visit) and wrote a book ,as if she had lived among these people and shared their history and suffering for years.

This is a pretty good kids book about the Maya. My boys and I all learned some basic info before we visited some ruins in Belize. It's a quick read and an easy way to learn some interesting facts about the Mayan civilization.

Bought this for my daughter. We are going to Mexico to explore some Mayan Ruins soon. She enjoyed reading this and learned a lot. She can't wait to learn more during our trip

Great book with great pictures. Short and to the point with out all the fluff. Great into onto Mayan culture for an elementary learner.

I ordered several books on the Maya & haven't had time to fully read this one, but have skimmed it. But based on another review, I did look at the pictures before I shared it with my kids. These are not illustrations: much of the artwork is photographs of ancient sculptures, wall paintings and masks. These are how the ancient Mayans depicted themselves, not how a modern artist has drawn them. There is one illustration that looks like it is modern, but it is describing ancient Mayan society & is very much in keeping with the style of the photographs of the original artifacts. Other than that one illustration, the photos that are not of artifacts are of modern Mayan people, housing, or ruins of Mayan sites. My skim of the text is that it seems very informative & I like that they give pronunciation of difficult words. It looks like a colorful, informative book that I look forward to reading with my kids. I think for the price & the attention span of the intended audience, it seems very good.

I love the True Books series! They have great pictures and pack a lot of useful information into a small, attractive book. Definitely recommend!

If you are interested in reading a History book that seems as if it should be a movie, then Born In Blood is the Book you need to get. Those of you who like the Dan Brown Novels and Movies, I believe you will definitely like reading true historical information of how the Free Masons came about. I am a California Free Mason, I've been inducted into the Royal Arch Masons (Christian) Order, the Commandry (Knights Templar) and The Shriners. If I had this book when I was younger, I would've joined the Free Masons years sooner.

How do you connect the Templar's to the Freemasons without sounding like a conspiracy theorist? You do legitimate research and present your finding and explain how you came to your conclusions. That what Mr. Robinson has done. What he has laid out does make sense and give credibility to the theory that the two groups are connected.We have to realize both of these groups are secretive and that was/is there prerogative. So it makes it difficult to know anything for certain. Mr Robinson starts out the book with a historical scenario that does not have anything apparent to do with either group and your not quite sure whats going on but it all begin to fall into place at the book progresses. Like someone else said its very Sherlock Holmes-esque. He build his case and at the end you can see that based on what you have read there is a strong possibility of a connection.

I found 'Born in Blood' to be an excellent and insightful book about the history of the Knights Templar and Freemasonry, and I thought it made a cogent argument for the roots of Freemasonry being found in the persecution and dissolution of the Knights Templar.One thing I particularly liked about this book is that John Robinson, the author, is not a Freemason but is a historian. He delves into a lot of the old records not just of Freemasons' lodges but also of those of medieval stonemasons, the Knights Templar, a lot of fascinating medieval history, as well as more modern history, tying together things so that I can understand the interrelationships between and among them. To read this book was, for me, an education in history that was more in-depth than I received during my basic schooling and college. Robinson presents arguments for this linkage between the Knights Templar and Freemasonry that make sense and are not the tired, fantastical claims that I haved read elsewhere. I think Sanford Holst must have read this book, because some of what I read here is information that I believe Holst cites in his own book about the Phoenicians.If you want a sound education in Templar and Masonic history, you would do well to read this book. It is intelligent and thorough, as well as very readable. I enjoyed it very much.

I like the book, but it's a little one sided against catholicism. In the past few years, Barbara Frale found the exoneration letter from the pope. Also the author didn't mention, in Portugal and Spain, the Knights Templar continued. They just changed their names to Order of Montesa in Spain and Knights of Christ in Portugal. The Portugal king and the Spanish King did not persecute the Templars. The book gives a good overview of England and it's goings on, but is seemingly ignorant about what was going on in Southern Europe.

Born in Blood is a the perfect balance of rigid research and engaging storytelling. I sat down to it one evening planning to get through a couple chapters, but found myself finishing the whole thing as the sun came up the next morning. Mr. Robinson presents a solid and sound connection between the disbanding of the Knights Templar and the emergence of modern Freemasonry. He doesn't fail to present logical evidence for any of his claims and walks through each step of his train of thought being sure that the reader doesn't have to take leaps of faith or accept references to obscure documents. I found everything to be a fair viewpoint to both the Freemasons and the Catholic Church, although I can see where some who are sensitive about their religious beliefs may be offended.

This was an enjoyable series to read, but I would not recommend it for younger teens. I have a 13 year old, and I did not like the numerous scenes involving underage drinking and people drinking to excess. The "sex" scenes were not overly descriptive, and oftentimes the author allowed the scene to trail off and leave everything to the reader's imagination. Again, though, having scenes where the boyfriend/girlfriend stays the night is not appropriate for a younger teen.As an adult reading the book, it was entertaining, had great imagery, and an enjoyable storyline. The author did use several of the same descriptive phrases multiple times throughout the books, enough so that it was mildly distracting. However, all in all, I enjoyed this series.

There’s just something about YA books that I can’t get enough of. This box set of YA supernatural romance encompasses some of my favorite things to read. The series itself is full of twists and turns, keeping me up all night to finish. I love vampire books and the author puts her own spin on an interesting story. The character growth and world building was spot on. I would highly recommend this series if you’re the fast paced supernatural romance lover.Final Rating: 5 Stars

I found this series on Kindle Unlimited, & decided to give it a try. By the end, I liked it so much that I went back & bought it for my own library. I am really not into the whole vampire genre, but this author gives it a different twist that makes it more about the ultimate battle between good & evil. The characters are very well-rounded & the plot twists & turns just enough that I had to keep reading to see what was going to happen next. Highly recommended.

I'm so glad I started this series with this box set. Once you start you can't stop. And reading one book right after the other helps to keep up with it.I gave it 5 stars because it was well written and enjoyable.It's filled with lots of fun moments and friendship and family, action, magic and romance.The characters are awesome. Although it would be interesting to read about Nicos story after becoming human again.. He's happy ending.I loved the end.. It was good.

Celeste isn't strong at first. She grows into her character and becomes stronger with the help of her friends and Constantine brothers. If you like vampires and stories about saving the world, you'll love this series. Especially, if you're a fan of the Vampire Diaries.

I have a student who just can't seem to put this book down. As soon as she's finished with her work, she pulls it out. Her goal is to finish the entire series by the end of the year. She's on a roll too!!! I bought this through DonorsChoose.org.

I like the fact that there are warmups included with the drills. I'm looking forward to incorporating these drills into our spring sessions. Every coach has a different view and different style and we can all learn something from each other. I have been coaching youth soccer for 12 years now and I picked up some very good activities for me to run for my u12 team. I am really enjoying the book!

While it doesn't offer many new insights on this age group, in terms of coaching, it is a solid look at the U12 age group challenges and offers a variety of activities that can be effectively incorporated into training. The game applications outlined in each activity are pretty spot on.

Fairly well written guidebook. Touches on all the major spots, a little Thai lesson and what I find missing from guidebooks is a small section on womens health and where to find products and services. Wish I would have had some of that info on my first trip.

I've been wanting to read this book for a long time, and I was not disappointed. It provides the history behind Israel's unique culture, and gives real-life examples of how Israelis and Americans interact in professional and social contexts: everything from company negotiations to chit-chat at a ballgame to our contrasting views on what constitutes good service at the supermarket. Sometimes it made me laugh, because it was so very true to my experience. I also had a light-bulb moment on how I (as an American) had misunderstood my Israeli neighbor's repeated invitations, and the best way to meet her expectations.

Though a bit out of date in terms of examples and "contemporary" descriptions, the principles of cross-cultural (mis-)understanding still hold true, and the comparison tables and communication tools are spot on and accurate.

Lucy Shahar and David Kurz start with a short history and background of the country and its people, with accurate, if minimal mentions of the Arab population, both citizens and non-citizens. The book continues with impressions and interpretations of what an American sees visiting Israel, and leads into specific scenes on the street, in stores and government offices, and finally, in the workplace. Covers Americans working and doing business in Israel, as well as Israelis representing their companies in America. No book is a substitute for actual experience, but "Border Crossings" really is the next best thing to being there.

"Border Crossings" also gave me some good ideas about how to solve intercultural conflicts. When I first started out, I needed a dictionary to understand the language. Now that I understand the language, I need a cultural interpreter to figure out what the words and behavior really mean. "Border Crossings" is my interpreter.

This is an easy read with a lot of insight. They are very good about reminding the reader that their findings are framework for building professional relationships, not meant to enable stereotypes. I would recommend this book to others doing business with Israeli's or as well as Jewish Americans as there is history that many "Americans" have not been enlightened with.
