If you have any experience with basic programming concepts such as operators, if/else logic, functions, and data types such as strings, integers, floats, etc. or have even minimal working experience with any other language then this book will be a waste of time for you. It covers the absolute bare minimum for someone to learn Python syntax and the most basic concepts noted above... nothing more. If you're looking to learn to write a Python program that does anything useful, look elsewhere. If you have zero programming experience then this book will get you some familiarity with the bare minimum concepts, but don't let the book fool you into thinking you're a "programmer" with the flimsy foundation it provides.

I will not state that having read this I am anywhere near "mastering" Python, but as a new programmer (last semester I took an introductory course to Python, this next semester I will be taking a much harder, practical course) I enjoyed this book. Not in having given me some mastery of the language, but allowing me to visualize the code and how it is utilized.Using Windows 10 I installed Python 3 (to c:\python\, not c:\python36 as it recommends), Notepad++ and Cmder. I use Cmder because it is portable and I can take it with me as well as migrate all of my files and profiles. Once up and running, I was able to open and execute most files and learn from them. Some files give errors, so you will need to open them and see if you can debug it.Take Exercise 25 for instance. It covers the .append() function, yet the coding is wrong in the exercise provided. On the very page it gives you the example, it states you can only append a 'single' item in a list. Well, in the code, there are 'two' items. So delete the second and keep Biology then save Exercise25.py and there you go, you just learned something and the new code you saved will execute. Exercise5.py is missing from the folder you download, so you can actually write that code yourself; it is quite easy, even for a beginner.Do I feel I am a master? Not even close. Am I more confident having seen the myriad different ways code can be written and executed via the cmd console? Absolutely. I am new to Python, but having read this and worked through its exercises I know I can face the challenge of harder material in the future.tl;drThis book will not make you a master, but it will allow you to visualize when/how code is used in so many ways. I am glad I bought this book. It has given me much confidence I need for the challenge that is Python in the days to come.

I have solid programming foundation and I just needed a book that will introduce me to Python syntax in a logical sequence. The book gives an excellent coverage for the basic features of Python and you can start programming in no time. Unfortunately, there are many typos in terms of spelling as well as small & capital letters as the language is case-sensitive. There is a series of these little pamphlet booklets. They are an average of 30 to 32 pages long. They all are on a wide range of do it yourself home survival topics. I am not a "preper" or anything like that but I do want to have a more productive garden and be able to store what I harvest more efficiently. I want to be able to store what my husband hunts and what I grow without having to rely on electricity because I have lived in hurricane prone areas and snow storm areas were power was lost for hours, days, even a week once, and we have lost a lot of valuable food. These pamphlets are awesome to help you learn what you need to look into. They do not give many answers but are awesome blueprints to what you need to look into for what you want to do. I have learned a lot of what I wanted to do from these, then go to the library to borrow the books with the information I need! We are slowly collecting the whole series.

This little booklet contains all the information you need to build an 8 x 12 foot root cellar. (Well, everything except dealing with zoning restrictions and building permits.) It starts off with a list of neccessary tools and a bill of materials then walks you through the process of excavating, laying a foundation, building the walls and roof, installing the doors and covering it over with dirt. As Ms. Hobson points out, this could also serve as a shelter in a pinch. She wraps up the book with some tips on choosing storage containers and the storage requirements of several fruits and veggies. If you're interested in putting food by I heartily recommend this book.

All the essential info for making a practical and lasting outdoor, partially underground root cellar. I am glad that the more expensive titles I was able to get at the library. They were not nearly as useful as this slim volume.

Very clear and easy read for someone who is not a professional contractor. This book is inspiring in its approach to building one very specific root cellar. There are guidelines for extrapolating the design and changing it, but they give you all the measurements and instructions to create exactly this root cellar.Even if you don't want to build a root cellar, but are interested in what it would take, this book is cheap and authoritative on the nuts and bolts involved in creating a root cellar from scratch.

Very good presentation for a simple, solid, durable shelter. Will certainly apply this knowledge with my own adaptations and modifications based on climate.

This was short and to the point. It covered one method of building a root cellar that is designed to also serve as a storm cellar. The diagrams were useful. Any handyman should be able to build this without problems.

I purchased the book, thinking that I would learn something about this rich culture from the voices of its inhabitants. Instead, its the work of a person who is profiting from the culture of a people, not thoroughly knowing them or living among them. Just an exploiter who visited and having taken ( or captured )some outdated photos (probably while on a short visit) and wrote a book ,as if she had lived among these people and shared their history and suffering for years.

This is a pretty good kids book about the Maya. My boys and I all learned some basic info before we visited some ruins in Belize. It's a quick read and an easy way to learn some interesting facts about the Mayan civilization.

Bought this for my daughter. We are going to Mexico to explore some Mayan Ruins soon. She enjoyed reading this and learned a lot. She can't wait to learn more during our trip

Great book with great pictures. Short and to the point with out all the fluff. Great into onto Mayan culture for an elementary learner.

I ordered several books on the Maya & haven't had time to fully read this one, but have skimmed it. But based on another review, I did look at the pictures before I shared it with my kids. These are not illustrations: much of the artwork is photographs of ancient sculptures, wall paintings and masks. These are how the ancient Mayans depicted themselves, not how a modern artist has drawn them. There is one illustration that looks like it is modern, but it is describing ancient Mayan society & is very much in keeping with the style of the photographs of the original artifacts. Other than that one illustration, the photos that are not of artifacts are of modern Mayan people, housing, or ruins of Mayan sites. My skim of the text is that it seems very informative & I like that they give pronunciation of difficult words. It looks like a colorful, informative book that I look forward to reading with my kids. I think for the price & the attention span of the intended audience, it seems very good.

I love the True Books series! They have great pictures and pack a lot of useful information into a small, attractive book. Definitely recommend!

John Robinson details how the rituals and symbols of Freemasonry originate in the period of time between 1307 when the Templars were outlawed, and 1717 when Freemasonry came out in the open.The key to deciphering the Freemasonic rituals is understanding that the words are of French origin. All kinds of preposterous explanations for the rituals of the first three degrees have been offered without taking the French origin of the words into account. When the words are looked up in French, it all makes sense.

I’ve long held a fascination with the underlying history of Freemasonry and its connection to the ancient order of Knights Templar - I was forewarned that it might be a difficult read but was pleasantly surprised to find it very readable - Johnson did a magnificent job of research and produced a meaningful work

As a former Masonic Grand Historian I can report that this book is closer to the truth than any other book out there. This is the one book that I loan out to Masons trying to sort out the mixed up history of Masonry more than any other.

If you are interested in reading a History book that seems as if it should be a movie, then Born In Blood is the Book you need to get. Those of you who like the Dan Brown Novels and Movies, I believe you will definitely like reading true historical information of how the Free Masons came about. I am a California Free Mason, I've been inducted into the Royal Arch Masons (Christian) Order, the Commandry (Knights Templar) and The Shriners. If I had this book when I was younger, I would've joined the Free Masons years sooner.

How do you connect the Templar's to the Freemasons without sounding like a conspiracy theorist? You do legitimate research and present your finding and explain how you came to your conclusions. That what Mr. Robinson has done. What he has laid out does make sense and give credibility to the theory that the two groups are connected.We have to realize both of these groups are secretive and that was/is there prerogative. So it makes it difficult to know anything for certain. Mr Robinson starts out the book with a historical scenario that does not have anything apparent to do with either group and your not quite sure whats going on but it all begin to fall into place at the book progresses. Like someone else said its very Sherlock Holmes-esque. He build his case and at the end you can see that based on what you have read there is a strong possibility of a connection.

I found 'Born in Blood' to be an excellent and insightful book about the history of the Knights Templar and Freemasonry, and I thought it made a cogent argument for the roots of Freemasonry being found in the persecution and dissolution of the Knights Templar.One thing I particularly liked about this book is that John Robinson, the author, is not a Freemason but is a historian. He delves into a lot of the old records not just of Freemasons' lodges but also of those of medieval stonemasons, the Knights Templar, a lot of fascinating medieval history, as well as more modern history, tying together things so that I can understand the interrelationships between and among them. To read this book was, for me, an education in history that was more in-depth than I received during my basic schooling and college. Robinson presents arguments for this linkage between the Knights Templar and Freemasonry that make sense and are not the tired, fantastical claims that I haved read elsewhere. I think Sanford Holst must have read this book, because some of what I read here is information that I believe Holst cites in his own book about the Phoenicians.If you want a sound education in Templar and Masonic history, you would do well to read this book. It is intelligent and thorough, as well as very readable. I enjoyed it very much.

I like the book, but it's a little one sided against catholicism. In the past few years, Barbara Frale found the exoneration letter from the pope. Also the author didn't mention, in Portugal and Spain, the Knights Templar continued. They just changed their names to Order of Montesa in Spain and Knights of Christ in Portugal. The Portugal king and the Spanish King did not persecute the Templars. The book gives a good overview of England and it's goings on, but is seemingly ignorant about what was going on in Southern Europe.

Born in Blood is a the perfect balance of rigid research and engaging storytelling. I sat down to it one evening planning to get through a couple chapters, but found myself finishing the whole thing as the sun came up the next morning. Mr. Robinson presents a solid and sound connection between the disbanding of the Knights Templar and the emergence of modern Freemasonry. He doesn't fail to present logical evidence for any of his claims and walks through each step of his train of thought being sure that the reader doesn't have to take leaps of faith or accept references to obscure documents. I found everything to be a fair viewpoint to both the Freemasons and the Catholic Church, although I can see where some who are sensitive about their religious beliefs may be offended.
