I think the author got "E.R." confused with "ER".And Clooney certainly had more than one line in "Return of the Killer Tomatoes". It's available on DVD if he wishes to see for himself.Other than that the book is pretty interesting.

This is a great primer with a wealth of information, but there is far too much concentration on Lithium-Ion batteries, which might be great for those that can afford them, but for most readers, will be in a fantasy realm in the present moment. The SOC figures for all lead-acid batteries (Flooded, gel, and AGM) are lumped together, which is misleading, and may cause users with AGM batteries to ruin their batteries by letting their SOC dip below 12.7 V. In the real world, folks normally choose between AGM and flooded batteries due to their geographical situation.

Off Grid Solar is a great starter book for anyone who wants a better understanding of solar energy in general and the potential of "off grid" solar systems specifically. It can also be used as a guide on how to install both the solar panels needed to capture sunlight and the batteries required to store and disperse the retained energy.Joe O'Connor used good analogies to simplify what might otherwise be complex topics to the handyman while providing the science and instructions needed by the electrician or engineer. It's a must read for anyone considering how to move towards personal energy independence with off grid solar energy!Perhaps a better title/subtitle would be something like....Off Grid Solar: a practical guide for understanding and installation.

I’m building a portable solar charger for a time lapse camera and this book was REALLY helpful with the lithium ion section. I realized I needed lithium-ion LFP battery type and now I know why. There was a long section about how lithium-ion batteries are different than lead-acid batteries. There was a lot of other info about installing and designing larger solar systems which I didn’t need to learn, but I could skip section and use the glossary to find what I needed.

I found this to be a good primer in preparation for Camper Van electrical design. The book is well-written, and covers basics such as the essentials of energy, power and electrical physics. I should think that for someone with no prior exposure to those basics that this handbook will be a good start if the reader is willing to knuckle down and study what is written. Even for someone who stays intimidated by the subject of electricity and ends up hiring out the work, the book will help them be a more knowledgeable shopper.The book covers: geographic and seasonal available solar energy, battery chemistries, cost of ownership, battery resistance rate of charge and discharge, how to interpret solar panel datasheets, and sizing and derating an overall system. It has both a proper table of contents and an index for reference. The author provides links to some Excel design spreadsheets that are great!It’s a good start, but won’t cover everything I’ll need for camper van electrical design. I very highly recommend supplementing this handbook with an encyclopedia-sized volume: Boatowners Mechanical and Electrical Manual (www.amazon.com/gp/product/0071790330/) It’s written for yacht owners, but will translate well to your land yacht! The author has vast experience with mistakes that lead to common money-wasting pitfalls. What the boat book will do is help the RV / Camper owner integrate alternator charging as a contingency to protect the battery bank during those inevitable days when solar is not sufficient.

Gives a good intro to off grid solar in one place. I've been reading from all over the Internet but info can be a bit confusing so this is handy as a base. From my limited experience so far, it's better to have more panels than you calculate you need because of overcast/cloudy/rainy days (on overcast days I get about 46% of calculated output including accounting for losses from panel to charge controller). Also, better to have batteries with higher AH capacity since it's best to have only 3 parallel strings in a battery bank.

Not the book to start with. It gets pretty complex for a novice.

Great little book. Some parts could be a little better explained or complete, but quite comprehensive for such a compact guide. Definitely everything I needed (coupled with a little bit of electrical circuit knowledge of my own) to do my first system successfully.

I'm a technically savvy person. There is nothing in the book that I couldn't get on line. I spent $50 on several books to know what else is out there. Now I know - there is nothing. Getting solar energy confidence for $50 is a great investment!

Jefferson's horse has a book-shaped saddle; young Tom fiddles while reading the music from a book mounted to the bridle. There is also sadness, when Jefferson reads to his wife on her deathbed. The full-spread compositions are supplemented by insets shaped like open books that contain quotes by or about Jefferson and his times or interests. In one, a slave remembers that his master might have 20 books surrounding him on the floor. Another describes his revolving bookstand holding five volumes, so he “never needed to stop writing to read or stop reading to write.” Rosenstock details the man's substantial and ongoing involvement in developing and contributing to the national library. The final scene shows Jefferson opening a large book portraying modern and Colonial visitors mingling at the Library of Congress; a minor disappointment is that O'Brien drew generic bookcases instead of the splendid reading room. An author's note adds more information, including context for the fact that the author of the Declaration of Independence owned about 600 enslaved individuals throughout his life. Even as a young child, Tom reads through his father’s library, and as a young man, he collects his own. He marries, has children, and makes sure that they read, too. He uses what he has learned from books to write the Declaration of Independence, and other papers through his presidency and retirement to 1814, when a fire destroyed the Library of Congress. The story concludes with Jefferson selling his beloved books to form the basis of the new collection there. The writing, punctuated with questions, statements, and exclamations in red ink, sketches the biographical framework and fills it in with quotes and bits of history to create an unusual portrait of the man. I wish this book was in a larger size such as 11 x 9 or bigger in order to make the font size easier to read along with bigger photographs to admire of all these warships and subs. I ended up buying another book about warships that had everything I was looking for although it was copyrighted in 2006.

I shop yearly for special books for our son for Christmas. This is one of them and he really liked it. Interestingand learns many things about military aircraft.

This book is full of facts & history if you like that sort of thingWell put together and an easy reference

Great book, very detailed with excellent photographs of ships, and detailed history behind each class. Highly recommend for any naval enthusiast.

The book gives a basic coverage of destroyer and submarine history and development, this is a huge amount of material, and the book could easily be twice the size to really cover the vast number and classes of ships involved.

About the Author

Stan and Jan Berenstain were already successful cartoonists for magazines and adult humor books when they began writing children's books. The first story starring the bear family, The Big Honey Hunt, appeared in 1962. Since then, more than 340 Berenstain Bears books have been published, and more than 260 million copies have been sold. What began as an idea sparked by their young sons' interest in children's books has become over the years arguably the best-selling children's book series ever. Since their inception, the Berenstain Bears stories have expanded to include picture books, beginning readers, and chapter books--even a hit TV show on PBS. Writing and illustrating the books has become a Berenstain family affair. Mike joined with his parents as a creative team in the late 1980s. The Bear family has expanded over the years as well. Sister Bear arrived in 1974, and baby Honey joined the family in 2000. Since Stan's death at age eighty-two in 2005, Jan and Mike have continued to write and illustrate wonderful new adventures for Mama, Papa, Brother, Sister, and Honey Bear. My son LOVES Berenstain bears! Loves them. We have at least 75% of the books, some from when I was a kid. I loved them so much I kept them hoping to read them to my children. Having said that, this one seems out of place in the Berenstain series. The bears look slightly different, like maybe a different artist did it? the message is super strange, basically, mom gets tired of the kids & papa bear not helping around the house so she stops cleaning or doing any kind of chore around the house until they are living in a pit.Picture bugs in the bathtub & dishes piled up in the sink etc.. Finally papa & the kids get tired of living in a filthy house & decide to clean.The strangest part however is the fact that the dog poops regularly in the house throughout the book,... No joke! There are at least 2, maybe 3 pictures of steamy piles of doo in the house. The authors also write that it is a chore to pick up the "leavings" of the dog...in the house! What?! My son totally noticed & was super grossed out. This was the strangest Berenstain Bear book I have ever seen.

As with most Berenstein Bear books, it teaches children important lessons. The lessons here are that one person shouldn't have to do all the work to keep up a house because it's too much, and also, if the house is not kept up it becomes very unpleasant to live in - both great lessons! As always, it was colorful and had cute illustrations too! Perfect for young children and middle-school aged children too!

My kids (ages 3, 5, and 7) and I all love any of the Berenstain Bears books, and this was no exception. It is a good reminder that everybody needs to do their chores, and I am not a mean mom for making my kids do theirs :)

Whether you like the Christian undertones of the Berenstain Bears or not, the books themselves have some great lessons to be learned. My 5 year old loves these books. We rent all we can from the library and buy the ones he has to hear over and over. Great way to help explain things to kids in a way that is not lecturing. Yes some can get a bit heavy on the religious side, but not all do and if that is not your thing the basic chores, manners, bullies, etc. books are a good buy.

I love all the Berenstein Bears books. They can provide a good starting point for a conversation with your child. Don't look to these books for answers on how to handle a problem. They aren't meant for that.In this one, we see what happens when Mama gets tired of everyone else avoiding their chores, so she avoids hers, too. Once the others see what the house is like, they start to pitch in to help.This book started a good discussion between me and my 7 year old about what chores are and why we should do them. We talked about Mama Bear's feelings when Papa and the cubs didn't do their chores. We also talked about what happened to the tree house when Mama quit doing her chores and how that made everyone else feel.These are great books for reading anytime and are easy for my child to read alone and understand.

Stan & Jan Berenstain's classic Berenstain Bears stories were personal favorites throughout my childhood, and now I use them often, whether for reading to young children or for teaching English to older children and adults. Not only are they beautifully illustrated, consistently humorous, and full of educational content. They also teach morals and provide guidelines for social interaction in a way that's neither patronizing, nor puerile, nor pedantic. 'The Trouble With Chores' specifically addresses the problems most of us have managing our time with respect to menial tasks, but focuses on a family approach to such an issue. Note that this book was published in 2005, fairly late in the Bears series when the family includes Honey bear, the baby sister of Brother and Sister bear (just in case you've already read some Berenstain Bear books and do not wish to be surprised by this addition).

our family has always loved these books, i like that they made a series as well but sometimes is nice to just snuggle up with the little ones and read these. perfect condition, excellent price

I'm a longtime fan of the Berenstain Bears and have a huge collection that my 4 and 5 year olds now enjoy. I purchased some new books for the collection, and this was one of them. I really liked the point they were making, but the drawings didn't look like the Bears I'm used to. I'm assuming this might have been one of the last books before Stan passed away, so maybe that is why they don't look quite right. Otherwise, I appreciated the message that everyone needs to pitch in to help mom keep the house clean.
