In this latest title by Joel Comiskey, he does an effective job of sharing principles taught in the cell church model for two decades. The book is based on Dr. Jim Egli's statistically accurate research on small group health, which I have been following for many years. If you've read any of Dr. Egli's work or gone through his excellent workshop called Upward, Inward, Outward, Forward, you'll see a lot of familiar content here. (As I read through the pre-release version I was given I was pleased to see some of the seminar content in this book. It makes a very good companion piece for any church who decides to host the seminar as a pre-seminar book to read or a follow-up book to work through afterwards.)If you've only read small group texts (vs. cell group resources), you may indeed be surprised by a few things shared. For example, the statistical correlation between increased member-to-member intimacy levels and the group being open to new people. Andy Stanley wrote about how his church's groups are closed to insure intimacy between members could flourish... well, the statistical analysis doesn't prove this out. In fact, it's quite the opposite. Read this book to learn why.One thing brought out in the book that I'm most pleased to see covered in-depth is the area of relational evangelism by group members. Training for relational evangelism is woefully missing in the American church today. Small group ministry will remain a pump of a program that always needs priming and a lot of maintenance and repair if the church isn't growing primarily through relational evangelism (and the relational discipleship that follows). If you read this book--and I hope you do--focus on this area of your small group ministry and see if it's lacking and work on it first. Trust me, when your small group members start reaching friends for Jesus, they will take your discipleship pathway materials and devour them immediately to get ahead of their new believers... and you'll be organically training new group leaders when a member is discipling a friend they brought to Christ.One thing mentioned in the last chapter that I felt needed a lot more emphasis is the centrality of Christ in the small group. When small group members gather in Christ's name and for his sake and let go of all other personal, group, or church agendas, powerful things will happen. And when God's power is flowing through one small group member to another member or a visitor, that's transformational! And when small group members are being powerfully used by God, they get excited enough to invite friends to join and they want to lead a group of their own. While this book just touches on this over-arching principle, you should make sure your groups meet with an expectation that Christ is in their midst and powerful things will happen if they invite his Spirit to move.In summary, I think you'll enjoy reading this book, especially if you're from the small group world where groups are typically seasonal and are used to support the pulpit ministry. The book does an excellent job of describing healthy, growing small groups as a lot more than than a supportive program.

I’ve read several of Dr. Comiskey’s books in order to learn about cell ministry and have found each of them tremendously helpful. His latest book incorporates the extensive research of Jim Egli and provides some helpful insight into making church small groups effective. There are a couple of lessons that we will be putting into practice immediately. First, the authors’ research shows that in order for groups to thrive, there must be a shift from “my group” to “our group.” We’ll be making a concerted effort to empower each member of our small groups to be involved in the ministry of the group. Second, their research showed the value of times of worship. Having already implemented this practice, we’ve seen an immediate change for the better! If you’re involved in ministry and believe in the value of small groups, this is a must-read book for you and your leaders.

Joel Comiskey is an expert in small groups and how they function. He has taken this expertise and poured it into GROUPS THAT THRIVE. In the opening pages, he compares small groups to a rain forest, then writes, “Just like that Costa Rican rain forest, groups that thrive don’t happen by chance or simply because people want their groups to flourish. Thriving communities require a supernatural mix of prayer and Spirit-led anointing that makes a way for everyone to participate, for the healing presence of God, and for vibrant life that blesses others. If you've seen and loved the movies, Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, then stop, buy this, and read it. My first go round was in the 60s, and I reread all four books about every decade or so. They never lose their power to delight and absorb. Tolkien is a master storyteller even the best since can only hope to aspire to.

The hard-copy versions look nice and all, but I wanted to know more about the Kindle edition. And I wasn't looking for reviews of the story. That's been the subject of glowing praise for decades. I got tired of trying to find a review that would answer the only question I had. Couldn't find one, so I finally broke down and BOUGHT the Kindle one-volume edition. And the answer is: Yes, the table of contents is all bundled together at the beginning, as opposed to having a separate T-o-C for each "volume" (stop sneering, I've seen other one-volume e-books where you have to skip through the whole first section to get to the table of contents for the second section). More importantly, the T-o-C actually works. That's right, I can go straight to any chapter by tapping that chapter on the T-o-C (again, other e-books had a static T-o-C where no amount of tapping would take me anywhere and I had to keep flipping pages to get to the chapter I wanted). Everything else seems to be functioning without problems. Dictionary, highlighting, synching between my Kindle and my phone, etc., all work perfectly. And in addition to being about half the cost of the three separate volumes, the one-volume edition helps to keep the scrolling at a minimum when searching through my library.

I bought it as a gift for my best friend, and the book is absolutely gorgeous! The cover has nice fabric-like texture, the pages are white and smooth, it has lots of illustrations. The book is big and heavy, so you won't be able to carry it around with you, it's designed for home reading. Can't recommend this edition enough: either as a gift or an addition to your library, it is a great buy.

I have never read the lord of the Rings before but I have watched the movies and played the games and I loved them. However I was always confused at what was going on at times but after reading the books everything makes so much sense now. I honestly liked the books more than the movies and although they are similar the books have way more content and details in them. So if you loved the movies I would 100% suggest getting the books.Speaking of the books I got the paperback version and they are beautiful. Although they are simple and the covers are one plain color per book it still has that sense of style and simplicity. They covers and case are thick and well made. Although their were points in the books where the words were slightly faded I still has no problem reading them.I'm not even going to talk about the story since just trust me when I say its one of the best series ever. I have never read or even considered reading a series twice but I honestly think that I might read this one a second time that's how much I liked it.So if you liked the movies and aren't sure about reading the books I would say go for it and get them since you wont be disappointed. If you never watched the movies then get both them and the books:)

Review for The Lord of the Rings.I'll keep it brief, this is not a review of the actual story but of this specific edition. I have attached many pictures that I hope help you decide if this is an edition you want to buy.Pros:- The font is big and easy to read.- 65 beautiful illustrations by Alan Lee that bring the story to life.Cons:- Slipcover is an opaque plastic, whit a modern look that I think doesn't complement the book.- One or two blank pages before and/or after each illustration.Overall I think this is a great edition and it's worth buying.

I am beyond disappointed. The font is too small to read, but I thought the artwork would make up for this since I already own editions with larger font. So many beautiful pieces of art were uploaded! Where can I find this edition? I just wasted $27. None of this artwork is found in the paperback edition. Is it found in the $90 hardback edition? I’m debating if I should just send this back since I can’t even read it 😭 These books are tiny!

For some people it doesn't matter, but for me, when I bought a serie of 4 books, the covers have to be the same, but here, I have two different cover, ugly, and two others who respect the esthetic of the movies. It's supposed to be a gift, I'm very upset.

What can you say about a classic? I'd never read these books all the way through before, and was determined to try, despite remembering what I had read as being tedious and somewhat purple-prose-ish. I apparently remembered wrong - coming back as an adult, these are beautiful books, very well-written and of course true epic fantasy. It may be that my tastes have changed, or just that I've matured, but these will definitely be reread many times.My only issue is that with the Kindle version, the footnotes seemed to be messed up. Many of them only bring up a page number (with no link), which may be how it was in the original books, but others seem to apply to footnotes further down the page, or just not at all to the thing they're noted from. Frustrating.

I have always loved medieval sort of books and movies. But I had never seen or read any of the LOTR. Over this summer i planned on reading all of them and i have just finished them. What i can say is that these are amazing.You always hear about how much of a world J.R.R Tolkien creates but you never understand this until you read the book.The story and the characters let you fall into the midsts of the book with every turn of the page you wonder what will happen next.Also for people who haven't read or watched the movies it is amazing to watch the movies after you read the book.Best quote"One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them."I only hope I can find another book to live up to the quality these did.

I bought this because it had cute kitty booties for babies. These are not in the book at all. Feel like I wasted my money. I didn’t want hats, I wanted booties!

This would have been a five-star rating except the booties pictured are not in the book. The book contains mostly hat patterns with a few mitts and booties. The author has update the cover by removing the Hello Kitty booties, however the icon that shows up in search still shows Hello Kitty. Despite the incorrect picture, the patterns that are included are easy to make and very cute.

What I loved were the short chapters and the suspense of who the murderer was kept me reading for the first half of the book. There's one action scene that I finished and I'm pretty sure I didn't have any fingernails left but overall I think the book lacked the tension I was expecting for a suspense read.Caroline was an okay main character. Her predicament put her in an unusual situation but overall I can't say that she's a character that will stay with me. She's a smart woman, a university professor no less, but after learning she's adopted and the reason why she was adopted she suddenly becomes very erratic and makes some potentially dangerous choices. Knowing that the bullet could put the murderer away why would you tell your story repeatedly to a newspaper? Why wouldn't you set your security alarm on your house if you think you're in danger? It just didn't sit well with me and made Caroline come off as silly.I'm also not a fan of suspense reads who slip in a romance 'just cuz' and that's what Caroline's romance felt like. It happened too suddenly for me could have been left out all together without hindering the main story line.Overall, this was a decent read. There were some good moments and some twists that I didn't see coming. I enjoyed the beginning of the book and the build-up but in the last half of the book my interest started to wane a bit and unfortunately I didn't find it nearly as compelling as I was hoping. This was a decent novel I'm intrigued to see what her future books will be like. The premise of the story was intriguing, a 37 year old woman not only finds out she has a bullet in her neck (since age 3 with no memory of being shot and no scar) but that she is adopted. While the premise was great, the execution needed work. I loved the short chapters, told from the main character's POV, and the suspense of what the murder was at least for the first half of the book. But then the main character, Caroline, needed much more development and depth. Midway through the book the character totally changes and that never made sense to me. Also I am not a fan of suspense when a romance gets slipped in briefly, as an after thought. I did not serve the story well and happened far to suddenly to be believed.While not a memorable read, it was a decent read with a major twist near the end. Unfortunately the end just did not make sense and it was as if the writer forgot something important about the main character.

Good read. The premise and plot are interesting, but the main character's behavior doesn't conform to her type. What troubled me about the plot the most and made it hard for me to take the novel seriously was informing the public at large (including the unknown murderer) that the only witness to the crime was alive holding the evidence. Too stupid for supposedly educated people to do in such a dangerous world.

I give this book my top rating. It was suggested to me when I opened my Kindle one morning. I tried a sample and got hooked right away. The story drew me in immediately and it was hard to put down. I am not one to give a lengthy review going over "spoiler" plot and character summaries. I rely on Amazon and posted ratings to tell me enough to decide whether or not I am interested. I am tempted to say more because I enjoyed the book so much, but no, I will not reveal anything except to say that you will not be disappointed. I already purchased the author's other book listed on Amazon and am waiting for a day where I can read nonstop because I expect the same from that book too.

This review won't be long. Suffice it to say that the story is so exceptional, the characters so strong that you see them in your mind. I haven't read a book this good in awhile. I read it in one day, couldn't put it down. I just loved everything about this book...the beginning, the middle, and the end!! If you're looking for a suspenseful and exciting book, this one is it! I don't give five stars for nothing!

I enjoyed this fast-paced book for the most part. I loved the twist ending. However, the sudden change in Caroline’s personality and her life on the run like some spy didn’t ring true to me. Still, I hope Ms. Kelly will write another book about strong women in the Washington DC area.

I think I would have liked this more if it had not been written in first person. The entire time I felt like Caroline was trying to convince the reader that she wasn't really like how she was behaving after discovering the bullet. But there was not enough character development to tell if this was true. There were very few twists and they felt forced. Overall, quick and easy read but not one I would recommend.

Once again almost got bored during the middle part of the story bur I'm glad i perceverd. Normally when my attention starts to wander a little while reading it's a good indication that I'm maybe not enjothe book as much as I thought I would have, and it definitely happened during this series. But I finished all 3 books, and will recommend them to anyone who enjoys science fiction stories.

I'm always afraid when I start a series the last book will feel like the author was desperate to end it. Not so with this one, a really good job of starting and ending this series, characters stayed true and the story direction was easy to follow . So if you want to read a really good sci -fi series to read try this one and you won't be sorry, again well done Jonathan Yanez.

Great story line, well developed characters, well written. One could see the the fighting as if you were taking part in it

Hoping for a next story...

I loved the first 2 books and couldn't wait to see how it would all end. It had some great surprise moments and some I figured out. My only complaint was that the very end seemed to just pushed together to finish it. I would really like another book that let's me know what happened to these characters that I like so much. Overall a great series.

This is one series I could read and read... Well you get the idea. I absolutely LOVE the Gateway world..I INSIST ON MORE.....PLEASE asked with a huge please lol. Will be author stalking to keep track of more awesome stories. Support indie artists.

I read this book and followed it's guidelines closely. I cut out all artificial ingredients, gluten and sugar. This meant I was preparing most of my meals at home from scratch, but it is worth it! I became very good at preparing big pots of bean and split pea soups, I would make a big batch that would last me for a week! I started this diet because I was experiencing a lot of fatigue. I also took some supplement and enzymes.Pleasant and surprising benefits occurred... I started loosing weight without trying! I was NOT going hungry. I got down to my high school weight. Some of my allergies also improved greatly; previously I had to use hypo-allergenic face washes, soaps, detergent, shampoo, make-up, etc. or I would break out in a rash. This went away. I can now use most regular soaps and makeup.I highly recommend this way of eating to ANYONE. It is a little more work, but it is probably the healthiest way you could possibly eat.The only thing that I disagree with is this book sates to stay away from coconut oil. Research has overturned the belief that coconut oil is bad for you... it is now considered the healthiest oil on the planet!

Thank God for this book. Back a year ago, I had been diagnosed with an intestinal yeast infection and also had suddenly started suffering from multiple food allergies. It seemed that I had a problem with just about everything and there was practically nothing left that I could safely eat. When I got to the point where I could no longer even eat quinoa, I knew I was in trouble and was desperate.This book explained what was going on and explained the dangers of repetitious eating (which I was guilty of, since there were so few things I felt I could eat. You just end up eating the same few things over and over). This book helped me learn about grain alternatives such as amaranth, buckwheat and millet, so that I didn't eat only quinoa and rice. I also learned about going on a rotational diet, which helps you to identify the problem foods and also forces you to vary what you eat.I have enjoyed the recipes. I've been making amaranth waffles, which my husband likes as much as I do. Buckwheat banana bread is another winner.I find I keep going back and discovering new recipes too. In the beginning, there were so few things I could eat that I had to rule out a lot of the recipes. As I have improved, I am finding I can go back and try out recipes that I previously could use.I also like the flexibility of the recipes. Many times they are not so much a rigid recipe as a kind of a guideline for an idea. For a soup or a stew, she may give you the instructions to uses a protein (chicken, duck, cornish game hen), some vegetables (whichever ones you want) and then add seasonings. While it may not seem like much of a recipe, it's good because different people have reactions to different kinds of foods, so this allows each of us to improvise and use the ingredients that we can tolerate.A year later and I have now kicked the yeast infection, but still have a lot of the food allergies. I am continuing to use this book because I just feel better when I eat this way.I am very grateful that I found this book when I did and grateful to Marjorie Hurt Jones for her recipes and Dr. William Crook for the very useful information.

My son was bouncing off the walls. Within two days of changing his diet based on what I learned in this book, he is a completely different child! I also changed my diet and have experienced increased energy levels, increased focus and mental awareness, and I no longer have high blood pressure.I read some of the other reviews about the "blandness" of the recipes. Yes, if you don't add any organic spices the food can taste quite bland. But, that depends on your taste buds. I learned many years ago that we often drown our foods in sauces, spices, butter and oils. This results in our inability to appreciate the natural flavors that many foods offer. However, our bodies are magnificent in that they adapt quite easily to change. If you give your taste buds a chance, they will adjust and actually begin to enjoy the natural goodness of these foods without aid.However, if you still prefer a little "kick" - add some organic spices, lemon juice, lime juice, garlic, ginger, vanilla extract, almond extract, jalapenos, peppers, etc. You'd be surprised at how tasty all of her recipes can be.This is an extraordinary book, and if you are truly committed to eliminating destructive foreign agents that wreck havoc on your body, then don't feel that you have to dispel all of the great information in this book and be trapped in your present dietary conditions. You can enjoy the benefits of great health without begrudgingly suffering through terrible tasting meals to achieve it. Be creative! There is always a way to be successful in what you are trying to achieve (when it's good for you)!

Really not the best book for someone trying to eliminate yeast from their systems, because the information provided and recipes in the book seem to contradict each other. In the end, I found this to be a complete waste of money.
