Comprehensive and well written textbook. I teach cosmetology and barbering in a combined class. I only wish the editors coordinated this with Miladys Barbering textbook. They cover a lot of the same material, but in different chapters and slightly different wording, so it makes it really annoying (as well as confusing to the students) to teach a combined class the same curriculum from two different but similar texts.

I originally owned this book many years ago, but lost it in a move. I am highly considering going back into cosmetology and I knew this book would give me the vital information I needed. Upon arrival I was very please with the overal condition and quality of the book. It is exactly what I wanted and needed.

The book has a lot of information to learn.

The book is in great condition. It looks new besides the small wear on the edges of the cover. The inside, looks 100% new.

I purchased this Milady textbook to help me study to achieve my goal of becoming a hair stylist. I highly recommend that if you choose this text, you buy the other accompanying books also (exam review, practice workbook, etc.) I studied this textbook while at my sisters salon (where I could see other stylists cutting/shaping hair).I found the reading to be very interesting. There is information about hair that a person would never even think about. The reading was very easy to understand, and I can appreciate that fact very much.I have yet to take the exam/test to obtain my license, so I hope this series will help me achieve my goal. Once I take the exam, I will write another review on how helpful these Milday texts are when it comes to obtaining licenses!

This is an excellent short introduction, completely painless, just a delight. To say that the author displays vast erudition in a modest way is an understatement -- I was in awe at how much Kerr was able to work into this tight space. It is sketchy, but sketchy like a Blue Guide to Paris -- these are the big questions, this is where to look, and so on. Most of it is structured around the Summa T., and one could do worse than have it nearby if one is going to tackle the Summa. The last chapter is sort of weird -- short bits of how Aquinas influenced later work -- it ranges from the debate over the status of the peoples of the new world to the very obscure Thomists of the early 19th century (this looks like undigested material in prep for his book on 20th century catholic theologians). There's no mention of Richard Hooker or the later fate of the natural law tradition. But I didn't really mind, given the quality of the rest of the text. In terms of "beginner's guides" I would give this to a real beginner, the next level up would be Feser or Kenny (my personal favourite from long ago), and then maybe Brian Davies, and the older but still valuable Copleston, Gilson, etc.

This is exactly what it says it is. The book is small, looks quite nice, and is a short read. It deals with Aquinas' philosophy as much as his life, and does a good job of condensing it, though of course it does not get into any of his intricate arguments. Not a substitute for reading Aquinas by any stretch, but it was never intended to be. Instead, it's a great book to look through before reading his actual works.

The advice per arm stroke and tempo ideas coupled with alignment, i.e. hands below shoulders, eyes over ball, etc. have filled in the blanks once and for all. I was touting another putting guru at a USGA Mid Am qualifying round awhile back and another fellow recommended this book. There was something about his confident enthusiasm that caused me to go ahead and order the book, to take a chance so to speak. I'm glad I was paying attention.----------- "Lights-Out?"........... More like 'Lights-On' in my case. And, the author wrote it in such a simple and easy to understand style. Says so much with an economy of words. This is good writing, good teaching, the final word on putting in my relatively learned opinion.

Needed a more detailed book on stroke mechanics on the green. Especially on how to pick the right putter between the four styles mentioned in this book. The 2nd interest was how to readb the greens.

This book is an easy read written for all types of players. You'll love this book because it has a few different approaches or methods of putting, so you're sure to find something in here that fits your style. Took me from averaging 28 puts a round to 25. Best part is I believe that I am a great putter now. Pick up this book you won't regret it.

Todd Sones' book is right up there with the greatest putting books of all time -- George Low's The Master of Putting, Dave Stockton's Putt to Win, and Arnold Palmer's Complete Book of Putting. Sones is two-time Illinois PGA Teacher of the year and a Golf Magazine Top 100 Teacher in America. Like Rik DeGunther in his Art and Science of Putting, Sones tells you what works best and how you can do it. The writing is clear, and the explanation suits the general golfing public. This book is much better than a book like Dave Pelz's Putting Bible, where you get tons of stats about how average putters don't putt so well, and next to nothing actually useful by way of HOW to putt (other than to buy Pelz's gizmos). Sones goes to the heart of the matter every time, teaching the optimal techniques in terms the average golfer can apply daily. That's what teaching is really all about! Great job, Todd! ...

The book only contains very very basic stuff. There is only a very poor analysis of different grips' plusses and minusses and very poor (to no) instruction on how to actually do each kind of grip. The different schools of how to make a putting stroke are weakly compared and explained (for some strange reason author Todd Sones didn't feel any need to explain or discuss the stroke type that is most widely accepted as being the "correct" one namely the pendulum stroke!!!!. There is no real analysis (numerical or "scientific") of how the ball rolls or behaves on the green. Green reading instructions and conscepts are weak weak weak... It seems like he just summarized a few starters articles about putting and threw in a few references to some pros' putting technique. What a waste of money and time! If you wan't to learn how to really improve your putting and learn the proper and correct technique forget this book.If you wan't to learn how to master the mind's game of golf forget about this book too and get "zen golf" (which is very good and intelligent). Peltz might be an alternative if you can stand his manic habit of endlessly repeting himself (which I can't)...

Todd Sones book is one of the best two books on putting in my library (the other is Dave Stockton's Putt to Win). Sones covers setup, pre-putt routine, the stroke (he advocates a simple arm stroke -- in comparison to Dave Pelz's pendulum type stroke and whatever you would call Stan Utley's forearm rotation arcing stroke). I have found this book to be the best of the lot for this mid-handcapper.

We use this book in our teaching in Americas Favorite Golf Schools and would recommend it to high or low handicap

I recently purchased a new Canon Rebel T6i, and let's be honest, I'm definitely not a professional photographer. However, I wanted to put more effort into learning photography techniques, and with that comes the necessity of needing to know the 'ins and outs' of your camera. I found this guide to be incredibly helpful, especially for a beginner with the Rebel series. I feel it provides easy to follow instruction and explanation on your to produce the best, quality work possible.I definitely recommend this how-to book to anyone wanting to fully learn about their Rebel T6i, as it will truly help you learn the functionality and precision of this awesome camera!

I haven't gotten all that far into the book yet but so far I think it's great. It's written in a manner that is very understandable and the author is encouraging rather than merely matter of fact. Easy to follow, plenty of tips, examples and pictures. For twenty bucks or so, you can't lose.

Although the content between most of the DSLR-focused "..for dummies" is mostly the same, for a beginner having all that basic content tailored to the controls of a specific camera is a great manual to have. The young one found it clear, easy to follow, logical and had only good things to say about this book. Use it for what is intended - beginner training, taking someone from "first time I hold a real camera in my hands" to learning the controls and understanding their purpose.

The Canon T6i has an entire range of settings, options and filters you can use. It starts to get confusing. I bought this book to help me out. I'm glad I did. I explains what you want to know and guides you to other options on the camera. Don't let your Canon T6i become overwhelming. Grab a copy of this book. Your photographs and your sanity will thank you.

I bought this to quickly prepare to shoot my friend's wedding soon after receiving my camera. It is both detailed enough to gain valuable information yet written simply such that it can be absorbed. Great purchase!

Great book for a beginner - nice explanations of all the parts, buttons, lenses, etc... Probably would not get much use out of camera if I didn't have this book to explain everything. Easy to read. Thank you!

this is crap - very outdated - no scholarship at all. don't bother. good only to catch a whiff of the racism that was a cultural given at the time.

A fascinating and intriguing story of a Frenchman who disguised himself as a Mohammedan pilgrim and traveled thousands of miles through the hostile(especially to Christians) deserts of North Africa to become the first "white" man to enter the fabled city of Timbuktu..........and live to tell about it. Extremely well written and very informative about the people and culture of this region during the early 19th century. Rene Caille's obsession with his journey certainly seems more than just a little bizarre, but it would be hard to fault his persistence and his courage in the face of the personal dangers he faced in nearly 2 years of travelling through some of the most hostile environments in the world among people who would instantly put him to death if they discovered he was a Christian. I would highly recommend it to those who are interested in true, historical adventure stories.

Rene Caillie was one of the great explorers and adventurers in European history. His journey to Timbuctoo is awe inspiring. It is a grand testament to the human spirit that he was able to overcome so many obstacles to achieve this staggering dream. This uneducated, unfinanced young man attained a goal unfullfilled by many a great explorer. Galbraith Welch does a fine job of retelling this amazing tale. I would have to state that I found some of her narrative condescending to the African natives and customs that Caillie encountered in his rounds. There is a trace of a sneer which was probably lacking in Caillie himself. This is a minor criticism, however. Welch was also a product of her own era. It does not diminish from a spectacular achievement. I was inspired by this story. The human spirit once more displays its glory. Obstacles can be overcome and goals can be attained. Overall, this is a valuable book to read.

This book was absolutely fantastic. I had a difficult time putting it down. I'd love to thank Galbraith Welch's for this fantastic book, but having been written in 1939 I'm pretty sure he's not with us anymore.One reviewer spoke of racism in his book. One needs to understand that the book was written in 1939. The word "gay" meant something completely different.He makes you feel like you're walking the bath of our hero, Rene Callie. You'll be amazed at what Rene Callie has to go through in order to be the first white person to return from Timbuctoo.Buy this book!
