I bought the ebook a few weeks ago and carefully working my way through it. This is not a book to be read from cover to cover. Often the author will redirect you from one chapter to other supplemental chapters and back to help you thoroughly understand certain principles. This is a work-book so you will get the most benefits if you have a pencil, eraser and notebook handy and an open laptop to do some hands on work. Amazing how much I've learned in a short period of time. And if you get caught on certain concepts--as I did and am--the author provides an email where he can be reached and he is very prompt (and patient) in getting back to you. Can't say enough about this book and its author!
I have been buying mutual funds as part of my 401k since being an adult, but haven't dabbled in stocks much. I thought I would try doing stock options first. Well, I realized that if you don't have a lot of money to start with, stock options won't make you much money. While reading this book, I put together notes based on the author's recommendations. I then chose a few of them to whittle down the number of penny stocks on the NYSE. Low and behold, I was left with a manageable number of less than 100. I work the oil and gas industry and so I have some knowledge about that market. Within the smaller number of choices, I realized there was only one oil and gas stock. I then researched the company, which I hadn't heard of before. After my research, I thought...what the heck...I'll give it a shot. In three months, that stock is up over 50%. I bought quite a bit more about three weeks ago, and that new purchase is up 10%. I'm very pleased with the guidance that author provided. I'm getting ready to read the book again and then look for another stock.Very good book for people who know nothing about buying any type of stock.
I need to make some disclosures before posting this review. First, I have been trading and investing in the markets for over 30 years. I have done very, very, very well, being able to retire years ago at age 52. These days I am more of a short term trader than a longer term investor, using systems that are based either entirely on technical analysis or hybrid systems that combine technical analysis with elements of fundamental analysis. Second, I have long been a harsh critic of so called "penny stocks" (there is not a uniform definition of "penny stocks," but most consider stocks selling for $5 a share or less as penny stocks). Penny stocks tend to be very risky to either trade or invest in for several reasons and there have been thousands of scams involving penny stocks over the years, like "pump and dump" scams or "short and distort" scams. Third, I did not learn or expect to learn much from this book. I got the book because I thought it would be full of lies and misrepresentations about penny stocks and it was my intention to expose both the author and the book as full of nonsense. Now to my review. This is an outstanding book. I give it 5 stars. The author (Peter Leeds) has a very good reputation and I know based on my own training, trading, investing and experience for over 30 years that what the author says and explains in the book is solid. No nonsense, no lies, no misrepresentations. The author candidly admits the risky nature of most penny stocks, and attempts to explain how to do fundamental analysis of the companies that have issued the penny stocks to separate the good from the bad. In the end, all movements in stock prices can be traced back to earnings, either actual, expected or speculated. The author explains how to investigate or "kick the tires" of the companies that have issued penny stocks to separate the junk companies from those that have real earnings and growth potential. The book consists of 15 chapters and is pretty comprehensive about explaining what fundamental analysis is (as opposed to technical analysis, which is more focused on the past and probable price movement of a stock in the short term than the company behind the stock). Chapter 1 is "Getting to Know Penny Stocks," Chapter 2 is "Deciding if Penny Stocks are Right for You," Chapter 3 is "Buying and Selling Penny Stocks," Chapter 4 is "Avoiding Promotions, Scams and Bribes," Chapter 5 is "Developing a Strategy," Chapter 6 is "Doing Your Research," Chapter 7 is "Picking a Winner," Chapter 8 is "Trading Strategies," Chapter 9 is "Fundamental Analysis," Chapter 10 is "Financial Ratios: Comparing Apples to Apples" (explains things like Price to Sales or P/S ratios, Quick Ratios, Current Ratios, etc.), Chapter 11 is "The Abstract Review in Penny Stocks," Chapter 12 is "Technical Analysis with Penny Stocks" (the author does not go deeply into technical analysis as it often does not work well or at all with penny stocks, the author explaining why in the book), Chapter 13 is "Ten Rapid Result Tactics," Chapter 14 is "Ten Trading Truths," and finally, Chapter 15 is "Ten Key Considerations for Companies."If you are managing your own investments, want to consider investing in penny stocks, and do not know much about funadamental analysis of penny stock companies or how to do it on your own (frankly if you are managing your own investments and do not know how to do fundamental analysis, you probably should not be managing your own investments), this is a good book to get you started. This book like most all the "Dummies" books is aimed more towards the beginner, not the person already an expert. The book speaks in plain English and is relatively easy to understand. I highly recommend it for those just getting interested or started. Another very pleasant surprise is that the author of the book, Peter Leeds, is pretty easy to find and contact on most social media platforms and he actually responds to people. This book would also be helpful if you are depending upon somebody else to alert you to good or high quality penny stocks, as your knowledge of how to do fundamental analysis would enable you to better research any alerts or recommendations you get (most of which come with something in the fine print warning you to do your own research or "due diligence").One other thing I should mention is that there are a few typos in the book. Nothing serious and nothing that changes meaning. I mention the matter only because some people like to play English teacher instead of book reviewer. Bottom line is 5 stars from me. Very surprised, and pleasantly so. But this book is not for everybody. If you are an experienced investor in penny stocks and know how to research or do fundamental analysis on companies issuing penny stocks, you probably have little need of this book. Likewise, if you want to just trade instead of invest in penny stocks, based on technical instead of fundamental analysis, this book will be of little help to you as only one chapter addresses technical analysis (and the author explains why technical analysis often does not work with penny stocks).
This book is very exhaustive, and has more of a long investment bias. It gives deep insight of the fundamentals of Penny Stock and how these fundamentals play out very differently then the rest of the large more established stocks. If your looking for technical analysis this book doesn't deep dive into this component, so if you want to learn how to evaluate a buy and hold on a penny stock this is as good of a book as you can buy.
This is a really comprehensive guide to penny stocks, not for dummies. I thought it would be more simplistic because of the title, then I read about the author, amazing guy really, holds a ton of unbiased knowledge and teaches it with great precision and clarity. An amazing book for penny stock traders. By the way, you'll learn more from this book than any online penny stock trader videos. Glad I found this.
After watching a half dozen or so of Peter's fantastic videos on YouTube, I found out that he wrote this book so I ordered it immediately. I had a feeling it would be very good at the least, for in his videos he's very clear and informative, and always provides pertinent examples to back up his theories. This book was no different. I can't say enough good things about it. I was familiar with the "Dummies" series and always thought highly of them, but for me this book is the best of them. I'd also like to say to some of you that may be sitting on the fence about purchasing this text, please don't let the "Dummies" title deter you, this book is so full of information, as soon as you finish you'll be reading it again. If you're a newbie or an experienced trader, you'll be learning and refining your trading craft. In closing I'd like to say that I'm glad Peter was chosen to write this book, and look forward to his next writing endeavor.

Perfectly fine cookbook, and I always love Mark Bittman. That said, the flaw in this cookbook is comprehensiveness versus excellence. There are hundreds of recipes for any seafood you can think of, but most or all are pedestrian recipes. And seafood can be surprisingly hard to cook perfectly! So instead of tips for how to avoid toughness in calamari, or how to make the perfect bouillabaise, or most of all how to cook various seafoods a pointe and not overdone, we get endless variations on every fish and dish known to man. Recipes, not techniques are the main content here. And that's fine, if that's what you need. Personally, I was a little disappointed. Seafood is delicate, therefore tricky, and more expert tips would have been welcome.
When I was a senior in high school, I complained to my mother that we didn't eat fish often enough. Her challenge to me? "We can have fish once a week if you cook it... I will pay for the fish." So she bought me this book.Next thing you know, I'm a fish cooking expert. I read about each type of fish, how to buy it and prepare it, and started working my way through each recipe, feeding my family everything from salmon to shrimp to shark. This cookbook became such a kitchen staple for me that when I got married years later I had to buy myself another copy since my mother wanted to keep hers.
Very informative book. I like that it has pictures and gives detailed information about fish safety, and levels of mercury for those fish that are not fresh water fish. It has great food prep and cooking information for fish and other seafood like scallops, and etc. Would highly recommend.
I own over 80 cookbooks, some also featuring seafood only, and this is by far the best. I’ve tried numerous recipes from this book (some I was skeptical about) and they have all been better than expected - none duds like some from other cookbooks I’ve tried. Although I was hoping there was a second edition with more recipes there are still many for every type of readily available fish.I also rate the provider ‘Book Lovers’ as 5 stars as well.
I have tried a number of fish cookbooks, both in English and Chinese, and was not satisfied with any of them. The two main problems: (1) the dishes are too *heavy* - e.g. they use too much butter or heavy cream, or involve deep frying, which I avoid; and (2) they rely too much on the same sets of stereotyped ingredients, e.g. tomato-, cream- or soy sauce-based sauces.Mark Bittman tends towards light and healthy cooking, which is much more to my taste, and he offers incredible variety from cuisines all over the world. My very favorite salmon recipe is on p. 235, Salmon Roasted with Cilantro "Pesto". Even those not crazy about cilantro may like this one - it's light, delicious, fast and easy to make in a toaster oven, and likely very *different* from any style of salmon you've had before.Fish cookbooks occupy a crucial niche for me - I don't eat meat and general cookbooks tend to concentrate very heavily on meat and sweets, neither of which interests me. And vegetarian cookbooks by definition include no animal food, but I eat and like fish. So the easiest way to bridge this gap is to get a fish cookbook. The problem was finding a good one. Well, this is definitely the best one I've found. I recommend it highly.
This is a very informative book about selecting, preparing, and cooking about every fish that's edible. It has many recipes that don't require exotic ingredients.Bittman must be one of the most impatient cooks around. He fries and sautees his fish like my wife fries an egg -- on High. Before I got a handle on it and turned down the heat some, I had scorched my salmon and had whiting jumping around in my skillet like pop corn. There was smoke all over the kitchen. So, my advise is to turn down the heat a little. About 8 on a scale of 1-10 works well with my stove. Also, he's prejudiced against talapia -- just saying it's not a fish worth writing about. I guess because it's cheap. I've used talapia in stews and found it very satisfactory.Otherwise, I've already used this book several times for good fish recipes.
My 12-year-old son is an aspiring chef who also likes to fish. After cooking blue gill for us a few times, I decided to get him this book for Christmas. He absolutely loves it and now wants to try many different kinds of fish.
My wife and I have been using this book for many years and have given it as gifts to family and friends. Mr. Bittman presents hundreds of recipes, and lists different types of fish that can be substituted if you are not able to get the primary one in the recipe.

From Publishers Weekly
Starred Review. Comprehensive and fascinating, this critical biography of one of the leading filmmakers of the French New Wave, Jean-Luc Godard, by New Yorker editor and film critic Brody offers the significant events and achievements of the cinematic innovator who combined an eye-opening concoction of art, politics, music, personal values and social mores. The author reveals an isolated yet driven creative genius who rises from writing articles for the pioneering Cahiers du Cinéma magazine with Truffaut, Rivette and Rohmer to soaring early successes with his films Breathless, Contempt, Masculine Feminine, A Married Woman to the later controversial gems, First Name: Carmen, Hail Mary and Detective. Godard, according to Brody, compares in critical importance to Picasso in his artistry, as the director's puzzling complexity is revealed through scores of interviews with family, colleagues and crew. Throughout the book, the key personal elements of Godard's chaotic love life provide added spark. This is a completely enjoyable and revealing account of an enigmatic director whose singular creativity will not allow him to make commercial compromises. Review
"Richard Brody's biography of Godard—arguably the most important, enigmatic, and exciting filmmaker of the second half of the 20th century—effortlessly weaves intellectual history, a personal saga, and an authoritative reading of the films themselves into a seamless web. It virtually crackles with intelligence, and is a must read for anyone interested in cinema."—Peter Biskind, author of Gods and Monsters: Thirty Years of Writing on Film and Culture"Full of lucid analysis and human context, Richard Brody's book performs a heroic act in rescuing Godard and his growing shelf of works from the prison of myth and theory, from the cult of youth and the cult of the '60s, restoring him to his place as an engaged, hard-working artist."—Jonathan Lethem, author of The Fortress of Solitude"Godard changed the movies as much as the American masters he grew up on: Welles, Hawks, Hitchcock, and the rest. He is as original as Picasso—but unlike Picasso, he has been denied the biography he has always deserved. This is it. Just at the moment when the New Wave turns fifty, Richard Brody has given us Everything is Cinema, a remarkable book which describes with sharp intelligence a great and elusive artist's times, intellect, passions, and work."—Wes Anderson, writer and director of Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, and The Life Aquatic"Everything Is Cinema is better than a biography, it is a novel. And a great novel, in which one discovers the story of a man who almost picked the wrong art form, a struggling writer who became an immense filmmaker."—Bernard-Henri Lévy, author of American Vertigo

Extremely insightful text, heavy with citations, interviews and whatnot. Mr Brody's tremendous work shines throughout its almost 700 pages. Highly recommended to whoever cares for cinema, particularly "art movies".
Great! Exhaustive portrait of the artist. Worth buying if just for the fist 200 pages where you get the feel for Jean-Luc's meteoric rise. Will return to it time to time.
One of the best books on Goddard that I've read!
I was glad to get a book about Godard's work and not a boring read about early family upbringing and struggles. This will appeal to aficionados of Jean-Luc's difficult cinema. It's like having a documentary about all of his films. Brody's writing is detailed and gets to the heart of the matter, just like his New Yorker pieces. I read it slowly to savor each chapter and movie. It's a must-read for filmmakers and students of the director.
The thing that struck me as I read this was that Brody seems more enamored of the idea of what he thinks Godard was doing as an artist than he is with the actual films he made - at least with the films he made during the first decade or so. Colin MacCabe's Godard: A Portrait of the Artist at Seventy seems more readable and more able to see the films as something other than opaque autobiography. Needless to say either book will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about Godard's personal life, although MacCabe, unlike Brody, shows some reticence in exploring his love life.
Dedicated, passionate, illuminating portrait of a body of work in motion.
Great product... great seller, hope to do nussines in the future... thanks :)
"(Richard Brody's) Everything is Cinema", famous French philosopher Bernard-Henri Lévy is quoted as commenting on the back cover, "is better than a biography, it is a novel". Fiction, in other words. I prefer to invoke the title of a Charles Mingus composition, viz "All the things you'd be by now if Sigmund Freud's wife were your mother": Over nearly 600 pages, page by page, precisely and adoringly, emerges the profile of a total neurotic, a mysogenist misanthrope, a miser.A bit of a private life component may be the spice of a biography, but if nothing else but his private (ie off-screen) life is advanced to determine and explain all of Godard's films and video activities, the reader tires rather quickly: In the end, Le mépris (1963) is an excellent and intelligent film because Alberto Moravia's underlying novel is great (sociological rather than psychological) analysis, and Godard a skilled and innovative metteur en scene. Some things are irrelevant, like his failed alliance with a relatively more mature Marina Vlady - Anne-Marie Miéville, the author rightly remarks, will be the first and only of Godard's women of equal caliber. And whether Godard held hands with Brigitte Bardot walking up the stairs of Curzio Malaparte's avant-gardist villa is about as irrelevant as his "accusation" of François Truffaut of having had a candid affair with Jacqueline Bisset during the turning of La nuit américaine (1973), and not showing it in that movie... ("how come only the director has no affair in that film?").Brody's method of endless narration makes it difficult for him, and subsequently the reader, to in any defined way assess the weight/quality of Godard's individual films. This is perhaps the main weakness of the book. Also, it contains a series of factual errors in the assessment of the bitter feud with Truffaut, which (as can be read up in the latter's many biographies) was basically instigated by Godard's vile and foul sneering. Truffaut was not the only one who got that treatment, but he is the one who most decidedly stood up against the intellectual smear campaign. Not an easy subject; a wealth of material, well written without any doubt, but still: not going anywhere in particular. fbus 37 - Everything Is Cinema: The Working Life of Jean-Luc Godard by Richard Brody - 26/6/2012

This is a fascinating set of talks by Shinzen Young on his attempt to codifiy enlightenment experiences from the world's religions. Lots to think about. It includes some guided meditations. It is NOT an audio version of his later book of the same name. It's an independent series of talks recorded years earlier.
I listen to this ALL the time. Shinzen Young lives, breathes and preaches meditation in a way that is deeply insightful and thought provoking.
If I was to be stranded on an island and only have one audiobook, this would be it. The clarity that Shinzen brings to the subject of enlightenment is astounding. I have never experienced such clear, integrated views of the path to awakening as well as how this path relates to other traditions and science. It contains fascinating topics that you will not hear very often from most teachers. Highly recommended! I've been listening to it once or twice a year for three years and like the title of my review says it will deepen your understanding with every listen. I guarantee it!
Shinzen lectures your heart and mind in this extensive series. It is a very comprehensive and broad explanation of meditation as a science and practice. very enlightening.I listened once and planing on listening again
I just finished listening to Shinzen Young's The Science of Enlightenment audio CDs. I ripped all 14 CDs into MP3s, synced them to my iPhone and listened at home, on the road, at the gym, and even at work. I have high expectations, and I was not disappointed.Aside from being a Buddhist monk, scholar, meditation teacher, mathematician, and science geek, Shinzen is also a linguist, so he's very particular and precise with his use of words, pronunciation, and diction (especially with foreign languages). He likes to define and clarify any ambiguity in the terms he uses in his discourses. He doesn't go into too much philosophical conjecture and speaks in a friendly matter-of-factness tone. The bottom line: Shinzen Young demystified the concept classical enlightenment, making "happiness independent of conditions" a realistic and tangible goal for people who choose to tread the path of liberation. Thanks to Shinzen Young I now realize that my kind of practice is Vipassana, my proclivity is towards Theravada, and that, when I grow up, I want to become a hard-nosed rationalist Buddha :)~C
First meditation recording (or book for that matter) that actually explains what it is and why and how. 10 thumbs up!
Have listened to this for three years now and bought this copy to replace the one an a lost iPod. My favorite mediation advice, is Shinzen's. It has changed my life in ways beyond what I think I'm even conscious of.
This collection is fantastic! Shinzen is a very clear teacher who gets to the essence of meditative practice. I have learned with each listening session.

“The play’s two hours fly by as if you’ve barely taken a breath. . . . Ethical dilemmas arise like exploding mines.”–Variety“Mr. Margulies is a skilled practitioner of fluid dialogue that is naturally funny and sensibly smart.” –The New York TimesIn his “absorbing intelligent” (Los Angeles Times) and timely new play, Donald Margulies uncovers the layers of a relationship between a photojournalist and foreign correspondent—once addicted to the adrenaline of documenting the atrocities of war, and now grounded in the couple’s Brooklyn loft. Photographer Sarah was seriously injured while covering the war in Iraq; her reporter partner James had left weeks earlier, when the stress and horrors became too much for him. Now James writes online movie reviews while Sarah recovers, mourning for her Iraqi driver (and former lover) killed in the explosion, and itching to get back behind the camera. With this play—coming to Broadway this winter—Margulies revisits themes of being an artist, as characters ask: What does it mean to capture suffering on film, rather than stopping to intervene?Donald Margulies received the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Dinner with Friends, which has been produced throughout the world. Other plays include Sight Unseen (OBIE Award), Brooklyn Boy, and Collected Stories, among many others.

I saw a performance of "Time Stands Still" on Broadway on Sunday, January 9, 2011. The printed script is very easy to read and follow. It was a thrilling play to see and is equally satisfying to read. The four actors in New York were James (Brian D'Arcy James), Sarah (Laura Linney), Richard (Eric Bogosian), and Mandy (Christina Ricci). Sarah, a photographer who has been in many of the world crises and war zones, hobbles on crutches into her loft apartment in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn with Richard, her lover of eight years. They have just come from a long flight and are bushed. She was badly injured in a bomb blast and had a long recovery period in an American service hospital in Germany. Richard flew there when he first heard about the injury and stayed with her all during the convalescence. Their driver/translator/fixer, Tariq, had been killed in the same blast. They have many issues between them. Richard who had been partnering with her in Iraq witnessed a horrible explosion, had a serious nervous breakdown, and had to return to the States leaving Sarah there with Tariq. He feels that she could have flown back with him during his crisis, and she feels as if he had abandoned her. Shortly after they get in the apartment, Richard, the photo editor of her magazine and a former lover of Sarah's from decades before, comes in with his new young trophy girlfriend, Mandy, who seems to be somewhat dumb. It's Mandy, however, who brings out two important themes in the play. She says, quite vehemently that she can't understand how photographers can take pictures of people who are in pain or great stress. Why don't they put down their cameras and help. No, says Sarah, they can do much more good by providing the world with a photographic record of the suffering. Later Mandy says why can't Sarah and James stop writing stories and taking pictures of the miserable things happening in the world, the downer stories and pictures. For her and millions of others they just want to live their own lives and don't need to see pictures of people "who go around hacking each other to death" These people, she says, "have always been killing each other," and there's nothing the ordinary person looking at a magazine can do anything about. Later alone with Sarah, James says that Sarah fell in love with a man's "suffering, his victimhood, the romance of his wretched people...Oppression itself." James says she gets turned on by war, chaos, and drama. She "needs the buzz." At one point Sarah says, "I live off the suffering of strangers. I built a career on the sorrows of people I don't know and will never see again." You wonder if she really cares about people. Author Donald Margulies has written a play that has real three-dimensional people facing authentic situations. His four characters are swiftly but fully drawn, and we know a great deal about them. His dialogue crackles, is sharp and brilliant. Not a word or gesture is wasted. In the theater or as a reader you are going to be propelled along by the narrative drive of this unique play full of all sorts of cross-currents and bristling with serious ideas.
A Brilliant show. Donald Margulies is a genius. I can't say enough how I appreciate the intimacy of this piece. The way it's heart beats and grows and breaks and heals.Time Stands Still is one of those shows so perfect the way that it is that you just p r a y it will never be sold and adapted as a film.Perfect just the way it is. With inconvenient, imperfect characters. And loose ends untied.Human.
I was looking for a play to use with community theatre for upcoming seasons. I like Margulies' work and I also liked this play.We need plays that have only a few cast members and this would fit the bill. It is dramatic..becomes a bit preachy at times and doesn't have many chuckles. If you are looking for a serious play...this might fit the bill. Only four characters.
Time Stands Still is timely, witty and deeply serious, moving, and challenging. With a background of a Mid-East war hovering over this Brooklyn loft, the play asks us to examine our own moral centers, both on the world stage and in our most intimate relationships: our responsibilities, our choices. Will we merely observe or will we act? This is the question faced by the central characters, one a photo-journalist, the other a war-zone writer. Will we look at what is painful - in the world and in our lives - or will we just change the channel, turn our heads? Perhaps Donald Margulies's finest play to date, Time Stands Still makes demands of us as and delivers, in return, a rich experience.
Margulies is a concise writer - his plays are lean and mean and leave plenty for a director and actors to chew on to get to the soul to soul work of the theater!
I bought this for a college English class but never really was that interested in it. Great for actors though.
Good Book!
This is a nice, quick read. Not going to go too into the review, but I after reading this play I did not feel too much about it. It was nice, but I had the "okkaaay..." feel afterward. Sort of a Much Ado About Nothing feel--not that this play has any parallel to Much Ado, just that it was not fulfilling. However, a lot of my friends really enjoy this play, so it could be just me.
